Next Chapter ~ 12 Secrets: Secret #3
What encourages me? What helps me to be brave?
I couldn't do ANYTHING creative without my journal ...
... and when I'm feeling scared, cuddles from ALL my boys are necessary too ...
...and not forgettting Jimi cat!
ONE STEP... This week I will send poetry to a publication I have not offered my work to before.

ReadWritePoem #61
What We Call Hands
At the end of my arms, these donnies*,
chubby brown fingers – one wearing nine
carats of hand me down ring, battered
to a square. Another five grab shards
of biro and push ink hard against
the wire bound page, forming long blue strands
of hair, legs and arms and at the end
of those round donnies, without fingers
to grab, just as I’ve been taught to draw.
*donnies=hands
Although I was brought up and have lived in Birmingham, UK for all of my life, Birmingham is a relatively new city and my maternal family spoke (speak!) with the dialect and accent of the nearby region known as the Black Country (so called for its historical links to the coal mining industry). My favourite of these dialect words is donnies, with tuttie pegs (baby teeth) a close second, simply because of the way they mirror my babyspeak and evoke childhood.
And if you fancy broadening your Black Country Dialect today , there's quite an ambitious poem here to tackle (with glossary!)
